Retroperitoneal abscesses

Pancreatic abscess Jan 30, 2005
Patient with severe acute necrotizing pancreatitis, with a suspicion of pancreatic abscess, confirmed on both CT and EUS. EUS-guided FNA of the hypoechoic lesion yielded pus, while cultures were positive for Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The patient was referred for surgical drainage which subsequently confirmed the abscess.

Perinephretic abscess Jan 30, 2005
Patient with repeated urinary tract infections, with a suspicion of retroperitoneal abscess, located between the spleen and left kidney, posterior of the stomach, confirmed on both CT and EUS. EUS-guided FNA of the hypoechoic lesion yielded pus, while cultures were positive for E. coli. The patient was referred for surgical drainage which subsequently confirmed the abscess.
